A winter count does provide a unique perspective on inter-tribal warfare but it can also be misleading. Winter counts are probably extremely accurate from the perspective of the tribe recounting the event to be recorded. As in the case of Lone Dog’s winter count, for example. Evidence is provided from the perspective of his people on a major event having taken place in a specific winter, which is depicted in the drawing(s). If, for example, we were provided evidence of the same event, (i.e., the number of horses stolen during a raid, or the number of warriors killed during battle, etc.) from the perspective of the opposing/warring tribe, it would, perhaps, be a different story, which leaves room for skepticism or doubt.
